WHEN IT ALL BEGAN

NUMT started in 1985, at the conception of the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA). Northwestern made one trip to the final championship round in 1986, ultimately placing second.

Northwestern has been a consistently competitive program. During the '07-'08, '08-'09, and '09-'10 seasons, we qualified all four of our teams to the Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS).

During '07-'08, '08-'09, and '14-'15, NUMT sent two teams to Nationals. In the past three seasons, NUMT has qualified five individual teams to the National Championship. We are one of three programs in the country to do this.

When we qualify for Nationals, we consistently place in the Top 15, placing 4th in 2012, 8th in 2015, 13th in 2016, 9th in 2018, 9th in 2019, 10th in 2021 and 8th in 2022. (The 2020 National Championship Tournament was canceled due to COVID-19)
